Who we are
The Directorate-General for Finance, hereinafter DG FINS, is responsible for Parliament’s budgetary and financial management. Based in both Luxembourg and Brussels, it draws up Parliament's budget, keeps Parliament’s accounts and prepares its financial statements, manages Members' allowances and entitlements, and finances Parliament’s political groups, as well as political parties and foundations at European level. DG FINS consists of three Directorates, 17 Units and the Central Secretariat. DG FINS plays a key and varied role in Parliament’s administration and is a trusted interlocutor for Members and political authorities. Joining DG FINS as a trainee will certainly boost your career. This traineeship will take place within the Central Secretariat of DG FINS. As the nerve centre of the Directorate-General, the Central Secretariat plays a pivotal role in coordinating and monitoring its core activities, while also implementing a broad range of transversal tasks. It is responsible, among other things, for driving initiatives linked to the environmental management system and ensuring the implementation of the business continuity plan.
Your tasks
As a trainee within the Central Secretariat, you will contribute primarily to the budgetary and financial monitoring of the European Parliament’s administrative expenditure.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Conducting in-depth financial analyses of complex and strategic files, with a high degree of autonomy over the medium term;
- Supporting the preparation and follow-up of budgetary and financial dossiers;
- Providing ad hoc assistance to the advisers of the Director-General, in line with evolving priorities and operational needs;
- Supporting operational and strategic decision-making by providing critical analysis of complex files from both financial and legal perspectives;
- Gaining and applying a comprehensive understanding of the European Parliament’s budgetary challenges through work with direct institutional impact;
- Contributing to the strengthening of DG FINS’ role in the environmental transition, notably by supporting the implementation and promotion of sustainability initiatives within the Parliament.
You are
- You hold a degree in Public Administration, European Affairs, Finance, Accounting, or a related field;
- You demonstrate autonomy and have strong organisational and planning skills, as well as a strong sense of initiative;
- You have a strong interest in quantitative analysis and a genuine affinity for working with numbers, which you handle with rigour and precision;
- You possess excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrate curiosity, dynamism, and responsiveness;
- You enjoy working in a multicultural, stimulating, and constantly evolving environment;
- You are proficient in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel;
- You communicate effectively in French and English, both orally and in writing.
You have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship.
