Text and Publications Translation Unit - Post C: Core team

The Directorate-General for Translation and Clear Language (DG TRAD) provides the European Parliament with translation and other linguistic services in all official and working languages of the European Union.

Our mission is:

• To support the Members and administration of the European Parliament by making all content related to Parliament’s legislative, budgetary and scrutiny activities accessible in all official and working languages, ensuring transparency and legitimacy in these core functions;
• To uphold the European Parliament’s commitment to multilingualism, enabling equal treatment of all official and working languages and ensuring that all EU citizens can access and communicate with Parliament in these languages;
• To deliver high-quality multilingual communication services to the Members and administration of the European Parliament in text, audio and video formats, in a manner that is clear, inclusive and accessible to all citizens, including those with disabilities;
• To ensure that all language services provided by DG TRAD are delivered efficiently and sustainably, integrating innovative technologies while upholding our professional standards to meet the evolving needs of the European Parliament.

As a trainee in the Core Team of the Text and Publications Translation Unit, you will gain experience in how the European Parliament delivers multilingual citizen-oriented content.

You will support the unit’s mission of ensuring translation and localisation quality, compliance and functionality for texts such as speeches, news briefings, press releases, web content and stories. Working with the team’s day to day workflows, you will contribute to technical checks to ensure quality and conformity of text-based content, helping ensure that products match clients’ needs and supporting the Directorate for Clear Language and Audiovisual Translation’s multilingual accessibility efforts. In this broad, forward-looking support role, you will be involved in coordinating and following up on quality and accessibility-related tasks for a wide range of products and formats.

You will work under the supervision of colleagues in the unit, who will guide you, teach you the current workflows and procedures, and review your work as necessary. This will give you the opportunity to gain practical experience in quality and compliance checks, client-oriented service delivery and accessibility-related follow-up in a multilingual environment.

Please note that you can apply for up to three Schuman traineeships.

As a prospective trainee in the core team, you:

• Have a very good knowledge of English and a good knowledge of at least one other official EU language;
• Have an interest in translation and localisation workflows for text-based content; previous experience in translation, localisation and/or multilingual accessibility is an asset;
• Would like to learn more about quality, compliance and functionality checks for citizen-oriented products, including user testing;
• Would like to learn more about and practise using clear language principles, with a focus on making content more accessible and usable for citizens;
• Possess strong teamwork and communication skills, which will enable you to work effectively in a service-oriented and matrix working environment;
• Are well organised and attentive to detail, and you are comfortable working with workflows, deadlines and follow-up actions;
• Have experience with, or are keen to learn, the digital tools used in translation and localisation workflows, including tools that support documentation, tracking and accessibility‑related follow-up;
• Have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship.
