Who we are
The Directorate-General for Translation and Clear Language (DG TRAD) provides the European Parliament with translation and other linguistic services in all official and working languages of the European Union.
Our mission is:
- To support the Members and administration of the European Parliament by making all content related to Parliament’s legislative, budgetary and scrutiny activities accessible in all official and working languages, ensuring transparency and legitimacy in these core functions;
- To uphold the European Parliament’s commitment to multilingualism, enabling equal treatment of all official and working languages and ensuring that all EU citizens can access and communicate with Parliament in these languages;
- To deliver high-quality multilingual communication services to the Members and administration of the European Parliament in text, audio and video formats, in a manner that is clear, inclusive and accessible to all citizens, including those with disabilities;
- To ensure that all language services provided by DG TRAD are delivered efficiently and sustainably, integrating innovative technologies while upholding our professional standards to meet the evolving needs of the European Parliament.
The Training and Traineeship Unit (TTU) ensures DG TRAD’s application of the European Parliament’s Learning and Development policy. It defines DG TRAD’s internal training strategy and establishes its training policy. TTU manages, delivers, and designs DG TRAD-specific training. Moreover, in its endeavour to support DG TRAD staff in developing their key competencies whilst allowing them to keep abreast of new developments and trends, in the context of a dynamic, fast-changing work environment, TTU defines, together with the relevant stakeholders, the learning needs of personnel and then devises and implements appropriate learning and development solutions.
In this regard, as information technology becomes a central part of everyday work, learning is also changing and adapting itself to this new reality, with new learning and development solutions being offered to staff.
TTU also has a dedicated Traineeships team responsible for coordinating DG TRAD’s traineeships, designing a diverse traineeship programme, and ensuring a high-quality experience by offering valuable insight into the work of the EU institutions, with a particular focus on the European Parliament and the role of the Directorate-General for Translation and Clear Language.
