Who we are

If you would like to gain experience in the field of human resources within a large multicultural organisation such as the European Parliament, apply for one of the traineeships in DG PERS!

The Directorate-General for Personnel (DG PERS) is broadly responsible for managing the human resources of the European Parliament's Secretariat, so that it can provide the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) with the assistance they need to fulfil their mandate.

More specifically, the DG PERS manages the different groups of staff throughout their career, in areas such as:

  • Selection, recruitment, entry, training, career development;
  • Management of rights and obligations, salary, allowances, pension rights;
  • Protection and well-being at work;
  • Strategies to improve and promote equality and diversity;
  • Management of trainees;
  • Internal communication in the institution.

We are the Pensions and Social Insurance Unit and we are responsible for the relations with the pensioners of the European Parliament and in charge of the management of accident files of all the EP staff. The principal tasks of our Unit are divided into three categories:

  1. Determination of the pecuniary rights of pensioners, recipients of invalidity allowance, staff on leave in the interests of the service and half time on preparation for retirement;
  2. Management of requests for transfers in and out of pension rights and severance grants;
  3. Management of accident files.

As part of the Pension team, the trainee will be responsible for processing the annual declaration exercise with the new IT tool that enables pensioners to complete their annual declaration online; and she or he can participate in the activities of the Pension team, such as calculating and fixing pensions.

The working languages are French and English.

 

Your tasks

Your tasks will be:

  • Reviewing the annual declarations submitted by EP pensioners, ensuring all information is accurate and up-to-date and all changes are properly documented;
  • Verifying, cross-checking pension records and updating the databases specific to the management of pension rights;
  • Assisting the file managers when a change reported by a pensioner is affecting his/her pecuniary rights;
  • Communicating with pensioners when additional documents are needed;
  • Answering inquiries from pensioners about any change likely to modify their pension rights;
  • Following-up and sending reminders to pensioners who have not yet completed their annual declarations;
  • Drafting a vademecum/guide for the processing of annual declarations which includes the use of the new IT tool.

 

You are

If you:

  • Are a courteous person with a genuine service culture who understand the importance of handling personal data information with confidentiality and professionalism;
  • Have the ability to review and verify data and assess the completeness of documents;
  • Have good organisation skills for administrative matters;
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members and EP pensioners;
  • Have the capability to manage several tasks simultaneously when assisting with the annual declaration exercise;
  • Have an excellent command of English and/or French - any other EU language is an asset;
  • Are ready to use new IT tools, being already familiar with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel);
  • Have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship.
