Who we are

The Directorate-General for Translation (DG TRAD) provides the European Parliament with translation and other linguistic services for its communication in all official and working languages of the European Union.

Our mission is:

  • To support the Members and administration of the European Parliament by making all content related to Parliament’s legislative, budgetary and scrutiny activities accessible in all official and working languages of the EU, ensuring transparency and legitimacy in these core functions;
  • To uphold the European Parliament’s commitment to multilingualism, enabling equal treatment of all official and working languages and ensuring that all EU citizens can access and communicate with Parliament in these languages;
  • To deliver high-quality multilingual communication services to the Members and administration of the European Parliament in text, audio and video formats, in a manner that is clear, inclusive and accessible to all citizens, including those with disabilities;
  • To ensure that all language services provided by DG TRAD are delivered efficiently and sustainably, integrating innovative technologies and professional standards to meet the evolving needs of the European Parliament.

Your tasks

Through events open to the public, outreach to universities and other communication activities, the Multilingualism and External Relations Unit supports and promotes the role of the European Parliament’s language service in making European democracy more open and accessible. Our aim is to tell the story of DG TRAD and emphasise the importance of translation in the daily life of a multilingual Parliament (in fact the most multilingual Parliament in the world). We are responsible for communicating DG TRAD’s activities and promoting multilingualism within and outside the European Parliament.

As our trainee, you will be joining a small, dynamic team and will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects. You will assist in event management (including participating in large public/internal events), help manage all aspects of our social media presence (research, drafting, scheduling, graphic design, video production and editing, etc.), prepare presentations (formatting, finding visual content, content research), draft communication products and articles for a range of stakeholders, research content for various communication channels, and participate in cross-DG projects.

We will encourage you to bring fresh ideas, insights and technical skills, and you will play a full role in the work of the unit.

The experience is both professionally enriching and personally meaningful.
