The Directorate-General for Information Technologies and Cybersecurity (DG ITEC) delivers digitally advanced, secure, resilient, compliant and sustainable information and communications technology (ICT) services.

Through these services, we contribute to the mission of an Institution that represents the heart of European democracy. Our ICT solutions help Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to exercise their democratic mandate and empower parliamentary staff to provide the efficient support Europe’s MEPs require. DG ITEC works to deliver solutions and services that support EP policy based on mobility, connectivity and interoperability.

We offer currently an interesting traineeship in the Network Foundations Service (NETFOUND). This Service is responsible for cabling projects across all European Parliament buildings and offers project management for the major network infrastructure projects. For this traineeship you will work closely together with our colleagues from the Network Architecture Service (NETCORE), who are responsible for the network infrastructure architecture and design.

 

Your tasks

The European Parliament’s buildings are supported by extensive cabling and Wi-Fi infrastructure. As the number of smart devices and IoT systems is growing fast, the need to adapt our local network - especially the final segment connecting devices to network nodes - becomes essential.

This traineeship offers graduates the opportunity to assist with analysing, planning, and documenting cabling and wireless solutions, supporting the integration of next-generation devices. Activities may include mapping existing infrastructure, assessing connectivity needs, and proposing improvements to ensure robust, future-ready network access across EP premises.

We challenge you to scout the technical developments in this area and to project this on the future needs of the European Parliament. You will work in a team of highly skilled experts in order to:

  • Discover the EP’s working environment, technologies;
  • Investigate the scope of work;
  • Develop an execution plan, covering the:
    • Investigation of the current situation and way of working;
    • Study of future needs in the area of building communications infrastructure;
    • Study of market developments in this area;
    • Definition of a development plan for EP’s building communications infrastructure.
  • Set up and implement a progress monitoring and quality control plan for your activities.

 

You are

  • Skilled in telecommunications network technology, with focus on the lower layers in the OSI-model;
  • Interested in the future development in the domain of intelligent office buildings and the communication needs resulting from it;
  • Good in analysing and have problem-solving capabilities;
  • Able to communicate orally and in writing in English;
  • Capable to work independent as well as in a team;
  • Motivated for new challenges;
  • Keen to be part of a team of ICT specialists in the European Parliament and work in a multicultural environment.
