Who we are

Mission of the Legal Service:

To provide legal advice to the Institution, its organs and its General Secretariat and represent it in litigation proceedings before the Court of Justice and the general Court of the European Union as well as national courts.
 

Description of the Real Estate Projects Unit:

  • The Real Estate Projects Unit of the European Parliament’s Legal Service provides legal advice on public procurement (revision of draft calls for tenders, interpretation of the provisions of the Financial Regulation, etc.) and contract law (works, insurance etc.) for all EP building projects (purchase, construction, renovation, etc.). Currently, a large part of the team’s work concerns the extension project of the Konrad Adenauer building in Luxembourg (e.g. analysis of legal issues concerning the execution or modification/termination of contracts for works/services contracts or settlements), the renovation of the Paul-Henri SPAAK building in Brussels, the EPLO/Europa Experience projects, and legal assistance to the Directorate-General for Infrastructure and Logistics (DG INLO).
  • In the event of a dispute concerning a tendering procedure or contractual rights and obligations, the Unit’s lawyers represent the EP before the competent courts (in particular the General Court of the EU).
  • By joining our Unit, you will have the opportunity to be involved in the handling of litigation cases falling within the Unit’s remit and to attend at least one hearing before the EU Court of Justice.

 

Your tasks

Description of tasks entrusted to trainees:

  • Assisting the Unit’s lawyers and Head of Unit by:
    • Undertaking research work (doctrine, jurisprudence) ;
    • Preparing files (documentation, analysis).
  • Attending parliamentary committee meetings in Brussels and a plenary session in Strasbourg;
  • Attending various meetings;
  • Attending a hearing before the Court of Justice or the General Court in Luxembourg;
  • Any other task relating to the daily work of the Unit’s lawyers.

Selection criteria:

  • Law Degree - preferably Master 2;
  • Advanced level in French and English.
