Who we are
The Directorate-General for Infrastructure and Logistics (DG INLO) is responsible for overseeing the European Parliament's vast infrastructure portfolio, which spans around 1.3 million square meters of building space across Europe. This includes a variety of tasks that are crucial to ensuring the smooth functioning and sustainability of the Parliament's operations. DG INLO's responsibilities go beyond just building management; it is also in charge of a range of essential services such as catering, mail distribution, furniture management, and transport for Parliament Members and staff. This comprehensive approach ensures that all physical and logistical needs are met, supporting the European Parliament’s political activities in a sustainable way.
The Purchases Unit of DG INLO ensures timely and efficient delivery of office furniture, stationery, technical equipment, professional garments, and promotional materials for the European Parliament’s services. It is composed of the Financial Initiation Service and several thematic teams: public procurement, inventory of assets management, purchases of office furniture, purchases of technical equipment, office stationery and service garments, as well as management of EP stocks. The Furniture Purchases Team, to host the trainee post, is in charge of purchasing of furniture for all of the Parliament’s buildings in Brussels, Strasbourg, Luxembourg and the EP Liaison Offices and the Europa Experiences in all Member States.
Your tasks
- You will learn the whole process for purchasing of different types of movable items for European Parliament's administration, be it office furniture and supplies, technical equipment or service garments for EP staff.
- You will assist in drafting purchase orders, receiving and verifying invoices from contractors and drafting explanatory notes for the authorising officer.
- You will also follow different types of public procurement procedures for products falling within the remit of the Purchases Unit.

- Good drafting and oral negotiation skills – internally and externally.
A very good knowledge of English and French is required; knowledge of German and/or Dutch would be an asset.
The chosen person should be a quick learner, able to face new challenges and have good understanding of the public spending.
Experience and/or extensive knowledge of public procurement rules as well as a university degree in law, business, economics/econometrics and/or architecture/design would be an asset.
