Who we are

The Directorate-General for Economy, Transformation and Industry (DG ECTI) is responsible for supporting the work of several key parliamentary committees dealing with economic governance, environmental policy, industrial transformation and cybersecurity. As such, it plays a pivotal role in shaping policies related to economic and monetary affairs, taxation, internal market and consumer protection, industry, research and energy, the environment, food safety, and public health.

Furthermore, through the provision of expert analysis and dedicated research services, DG ECTI aims to empower Members of the European Parliament to develop evidence-based policies that address the needs and concerns of European citizens, while also contributing to the effective exercise and development of the Parliament's legislative and scrutiny powers.

The Public Health Committee (SANT) deals with public health matters, particularly the programmes and specific actions in the field of public health, pharmaceutical and medical devices, health crisis and preparedness and response, mental health and patient's rights, and the health aspects of bioterrorism. It has also a supervisory role of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and ensures relations with the World Health Organization on the above matters.
