The Directorate-General for Personnel (DG PERS) is broadly responsible for managing the human resources of the European Parliament's Secretariat, so that it can provide the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) with the assistance they need to fulfil their mandate.

More specifically, DG PERS manages the different groups of staff throughout their career, in areas such as:

  • Selection, recruitment, entry, training, career development;
  • Management of rights and obligations, salary, allowances, pension rights;
  • Protection and well-being at work;
  • Strategies to improve and promote equality and diversity;
  • Management of trainees;
  • Internal communication in the institution.

The Financial Resources Unit of the Directorate-General for Personnel is the central point of expertise in the area of financial and contractual management, in the directorate of human resources. Its mission is to ensure the smooth running of financial operations including payment of salaries, training courses, medical services, and to advise and guide operating units in financial and budgetary matters.

The main responsibilities of the Financial Resources Unit are:

  • Financial management with SAP (e.g. budget execution, financial closing);
  • Development and management of public procurement procedures;
  • Verification of operations on the biggest budget of the European Parliament;
  • Ex-post audit: staff and financial audit;
  • Preparation of documents related to call to tender on the basis of technical specifications;
  • Coordinating risk management and internal controls of DG PERS;
  • Drafting the activity reports.

 

Your tasks

As a trainee, your tasks will be:

  • To design new accounting and financial informational materials;
  • To contribute to the assessment and monitoring of internal controls;
  • To help draft reports based on research and analysis of financial and non-financial indicators;
  • To analyse the risks of the unit's internal controls;
  • To verify financial and management reports for inconsistencies or errors;
  • To contribute to ex-posts audits (design audit plan, testing, reporting);
  • To update ex-ante controls towards a risk-based approach for financial operations;
  • To assist in presentations, workshops, communications.
