IT Support Unit - Post A

The Directorate-General for Translation and Clear Language (DG TRAD) provides the European Parliament with translation and other linguistic services in all official and working languages of the European Union.

Our mission is:

• To support the Members and administration of the European Parliament by making all content related to Parliament’s legislative, budgetary and scrutiny activities accessible in all official and working languages, ensuring transparency and legitimacy in these core functions;
• To uphold the European Parliament’s commitment to multilingualism, enabling equal treatment of all official and working languages and ensuring that all EU citizens can access and communicate with Parliament in these languages;
• To deliver high-quality multilingual communication services to the Members and administration of the European Parliament in text, audio and video formats, in a manner that is clear, inclusive and accessible to all citizens, including those with disabilities;
• To ensure that all language services provided by DG TRAD are delivered efficiently and sustainably, integrating innovative technologies while upholding our professional standards to meet the evolving needs of the European Parliament.

As part of our ServiceDesk team, you will play a central role in supporting colleagues across DG TRAD.

• You will answer questions, troubleshoot issues, and help users get the most out of the tools and applications they use every day, whether by email, phone, or in person.
• You will analyse user requests, identify appropriate solutions, and explain technical information clearly and accessibly to users with different levels of technical knowledge. You will also log, track, and follow up on requests in ServiceNow, helping ensure that issues are properly managed and resolved efficiently.
• As you gain experience, you will gradually take greater ownership of requests and contribute to improving the support service. You will learn how IT service management works in practice and develop hands-on experience with the tools and applications used in a unique multilingual translation environment.
• You will discover how IT supports complex translation and multilingual workflows and become familiar with specialised technologies, including translation and CAT tools such as Trados Studio.
• You will have the opportunity to explore new tools, understand how they are used by translators and language professionals, and see how technology enables their work.
• You will work closely with colleagues from across DG TRAD, collaborate with different teams, exchange knowledge, and contribute to an international working environment. Throughout the traineeship, you will be supported by experiencAAed colleagues while developing your technical, problem-solving, communication, and user-support skills.

By the end of the Schuman Traineeship, you will have gained practical experience in IT support and service management, a better understanding of technology in a multilingual environment, and transferable skills that you can take into your future career.

You are curious, proactive, and people-oriented. You enjoy solving problems, helping others, and learning how technology can make people's work easier. We value your willingness to learn, your ability to communicate, and your interest in technology as much as your existing technical knowledge.

• You are comfortable working in English. Knowledge of French is an advantage, but not essential;
• You enjoy teamwork, open communication, and sharing knowledge with others;
• You like interacting with people, listening to their needs, and helping them use technology with confidence;
• You can explain technical concepts clearly and adapt your communication to users with different levels of technical knowledge;
• You are curious about how technology works, enjoy solving problems, and are keen to develop your IT skills through hands-on experience;
• You enjoy discovering new tools and following developments in AI and technology;
• You may already have experience with Trados Studio or other CAT tools, or you are interested in discovering them and learning how they work;
• You are curious about the connection between IT and translation and would like to understand how digital tools support multilingual workflows in practice;
• Your background may be in IT, languages, translation, information management, or another relevant field. What matters is your curiosity, adaptability, and willingness to learn;
• You have, or will soon obtain, a university degree at EQF level 6 or above, obtained at least three months before the traineeship starts.
