Directorate for Economy and Growth: Policy Department - Post B

The Directorate-General for Economy, Transformation and Industry (DG ECTI) plays an essential role in supporting the work of key parliamentary committees, empowering Members of the European Parliament to excel in their legislative, scrutiny, and budgetary responsibilities. As a cornerstone of the European Parliament's administrative structure, DG ECTI facilitates the smooth operation of committee activities, promoting evidence-based decision-making through expert analysis and dedicated research services. Its policy remit encompasses a broad range of areas, including economic and monetary affairs, financial policy, taxation, internal market and consumer protection, cybersecurity, industry, research, energy, environment, climate, food safety, and public health. Through its support, DG ECTI enables the European Parliament to navigate an increasingly complex and evolving geopolitical and economic landscape, while fostering the development of administrative and political ties.

Within this DG, the Policy Departments provide parliamentary committees with the expertise required for evidence-based policymaking. They produce the Fact Sheets on the European Union, as well as notes, briefings, analyses and studies, either in-house or through public procurement procedures. They also organise events such as workshops and study presentations where external experts meet with MEPs and staff. 

In this capacity, Policy Department A covers the fields of economic and growth related policies in the area of taxation and the internal market, supporting the work of the Subcommittee on tax matters (FISC) and the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO).

• Research facts and analyse policies in the fields of taxation (including, sometimes, the area of anti-money laundering);
• Contribute to briefing papers for missions of FISC members to countries inside and outside the EU;
• Contribute to other briefing papers relating to the policy areas of FISC;
• Contribute to overall briefing papers (including updates of so-called commitment trackers scrutinizing the EU Commission);
• Attend and report on (sub-)committee meetings and related conferences;
• Update relevant Fact Sheets with the latest information;
• Assist in reviewing new research before publication;
• Assist with expertise during workshops and presentations.
  
  

• University graduate with sound knowledge of the European institutions, the European Union's policies and the EU legislative procedures;
• Able to draft and proofread in English to a high standard;
• Skilled in analysing, managing, and organising information, writing and problem-solving, paying meticulous attention to detail;
• Fully versed in the use of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint);
• Strongly interested in tax policies, notably related to direct and indirect taxation of EU Member States, including the fight against tax evasion and avoidance;
• A study- or work-related background in this area would be a bonus. 

You have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship.
