Who we are
The Directorate-General for Infrastructure and Logistics (DG INLO) is responsible for overseeing the European Parliament's vast infrastructure portfolio, which spans around 1.3 million square meters of building space across Europe. This includes a variety of tasks that are crucial to ensuring the smooth functioning and sustainability of the Parliament's operations. DG INLO's responsibilities go beyond just building management; it is also in charge of a range of essential services such as catering, mail distribution, furniture management, and transport for Parliament Members and staff. This comprehensive approach ensures that all physical and logistical needs are met, supporting the European Parliament’s political activities in a sustainable way.
Within the Directorate-General for Infrastructure and Logistics, the Brussels Environmental and Sustainable Upgrade Unit is currently developing a Masterplan outlining the key principles for the renovation and evolution of our real estate portfolio. It will focus on environmental and energy performance, quality, accessibility, image, and integration within its surroundings, all while preserving our architectural heritage and ensuring full support for the European Parliament’s operational needs in Brussels. Once coordinated and adopted, the Masterplan will serve as the framework for concrete actions and renovation projects.
The Unit’s first major challenge is the renovation of the SPAAK building. Given its size and the essential functions it houses, this project will have a far-reaching impact on the entire European Parliament in Brussels. Staff and infrastructure will need to be relocated, triggering a series of related real estate projects before the actual renovation of SPAAK begins in 2027.
