Who we are
The Directorate-General for Infrastructure and Logistics (DG INLO) is responsible for overseeing the European Parliament's vast infrastructure portfolio, which spans around 1.3 million square meters of building space across Europe. This includes a variety of tasks that are crucial to ensuring the smooth functioning and sustainability of the Parliament's operations. DG INLO's responsibilities go beyond just building management; it is also in charge of a range of essential services such as catering, mail distribution, furniture management, and transport for Parliament Members and staff. This comprehensive approach ensures that all physical and logistical needs are met, supporting the European Parliament’s political activities in a sustainable way.
In the context of the development of its activities, the Insurance Unit manages a diverse portfolio of contracts covering the buildings, vehicles, and public liability of the European Parliament.
Your tasks
The trainee will actively contribute to the analysis and implementation of these insurance policies in collaboration with the Institution’s various Directorates Generals. This experience will also allow them to gain insight into the European Parliament’s internal structures.
Analysis of Insurance Claims and Adjustment of Coverage
Following the development of various programs, insurance coverage for public-facing events raises new and complex questions. The trainee will be in charge of assessing requests from the Parliament’s services and verifying the adequacy of the guarantees provided by the relevant insurance policies to ensure their compliance and effectiveness.
Contribution to the Unit’s Strategic Discussions
As part of the SPAAK Building renovation project (which houses the hemicycle of the plenary in Brussels), the Insurance Unit will act in an advisory capacity to the operational Units overseeing its implementation. The trainee will be actively involved in this process and will specifically contribute to:
- Conducting in-depth research on insurance-related challenges linked to the project;
- Performing comparative analyses of applicable insurance policies to identify the most suitable coverage for the Institution.
More broadly, the trainee will contribute to discussions on insurance matters relating to the European Parliament’s construction and renovation projects across its three places of work, Brussels, Strasbourg and Luxembourg. This will involve assessing relevant national legislation and practices to ensure compliance and optimal risk management.
Audit Support
The trainee will also participate in insurance audits conducted by the Insurance Unit, which examine the insurance clauses embedded in contracts managed by the Directorate-General. This task will involve verifying the compliance and comprehensiveness of the guarantees subscribed to, ensuring that insurance coverage aligns with the Institution’s needs and risk exposure.
