Who we are

The Directorate-General for Finance, hereinafter DG FINS, is responsible for Parliament’s budgetary and financial management. Based in both Luxembourg and Brussels, it draws up Parliament's budget, keeps Parliament’s accounts and prepares its financial statements, manages Members' allowances and entitlements, and finances Parliament’s political groups, as well as political parties and foundations at European level. DG FINS consists of three Directorates, 17 Units and the Central Secretariat. DG FINS plays a key and varied role in Parliament’s administration and is a trusted interlocutor for Members and political authorities. Joining DG FINS as a trainee will certainly boost your career. The Directorate for Political Structures Financing and Resources (Directorate C) is a dynamic directorate comprising five units. Its mandate includes the management of funding for European political parties and foundations, political groups, and non-attached Members, oversight of parliamentary travel, and the administration of e-Portal for Members. The Directorate also provides essential internal IT and HR support services for the DG.

 

Your tasks

We are seeking a motivated trainee to assist the Director and their team with legal, financial and administrative duties pertaining to the above-mentioned fields of work. The role offers a unique insight into the intersection of European administration and political structures financing.

  • Monitor and report the activities of Committee on Budgets (BUDG), Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT), Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO), as well as relevant plenary sessions;
  • Conduct thematic research, draft briefings and memos, and prepare presentations;
  • Support the follow-up on the activities of the financing of political parties and foundations, political groups and parliamentary associations;
  • Assist in the preparation and revision of official reports, notes, and internal communication documents;
  • Assist in daily operations to the Director and their team, including meeting organisation, agenda drafting and minute-taking.

 

You are

The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical and capable of managing diverse tasks within a multicultural environment. 

You should also have:

  • Education: a background in Law, Public Administration, European Governance, Finance or Audit.
  • Skills: strong organisational and analytical skills, a keen eye for detail, flexibility, and the capacity to meet strict deadlines;
  • Communication: excellent verbal and written command in English. Proficiency in French is highly desirable; knowledge of additional EU languages is an asset;
  • IT: good practical knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook);
  • The ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team in a fast-paced setting.

This traineeship offers an excellent insight to the European civil service, providing practical experience in financial governance and the administrative mechanics of the European Parliament.

 

You have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship.
