Who we are
The Directorate-General for Information Technologies and Cybersecurity (DG ITEC) delivers digitally advanced, secure, resilient, compliant and sustainable information and communications technology (ICT) services for the European Parliament.
Inside DG ITEC, the Directorate for Business Solutions offers state-of-the-art IT infrastructure and corporate solutions to both Members and administration, fosters innovation and is responsible for data strategy and management in the European Parliament. The Directorate has five units, one of which is the Data Services Unit.
Data Services unit consists of two teams dealing with data management and data processing. The data team inside the INDATA service is behind the creation of a transversal Data Platform (including a Data Catalogue component), setting up a corporate Data Governance Framework, defining data policies and establishing data roles. In addition to this, the team oversees Parliament's open data project and various initiatives related to improving data quality and data management. Most importantly, INDATA is dedicated to creating a centre of excellence in data management and making Parliament’s data a valuable corporate asset.
Your tasks
As the selected trainee, you will be at the forefront of revolutionising how data is utilised within the European Parliament. You will be involved into various data projects and initiatives, aiming to establish the first data-centric practices inside the Parliament and make the data more findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR data). Among other tasks, during the development of the European Parliament Data Platform, you will be researching data-related topics, benchmarking tools (especially semantic technologies), and enriching the editorial content of the European Parliament Open Data Portal.
You will also be helping to achieve the gold standard in data management and set up the newly presented Parliament's data governance framework. In addition, you will be heavily involved in the population and update of a (meta)data catalogue, ensuring that valuable data assets are organised and available for informed decision-making. You will assist with preparing awareness-raising campaigns for internal stakeholders, as well as communicating with external collaborators, contractors and diverse internal departments.

Have you heard of the FAIR data principles? If yes, you are at the right place. We are seeking a dynamic individual with a passion for innovation in data management and governance. If you are someone who loves to explore various aspects of data, then you are exactly who we are looking for! Whether data policies, communication materials or hands-on work with software development, graph databases, ontologies and semantic technologies/tools (e.g. RDF, SPARQL, SHACL, etc.), your versatility will be your greatest asset in this role. Excellent communication skills, experience in web programming and/or data science will be considered an additional plus. As you will be collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders from different departments and with different backgrounds, proficiency in English is a must. Key requirement is that you have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship.
