Who we are
The Directorate-General for Citizens' Rights, Justice and Institutional Affairs (DG IUST) organises and facilitates the work of parliamentary committees in key areas such as culture, education, legal and constitutional affairs, gender equality, civil liberties, petitions and democracy protection. Through high-quality research, expert advice, and administrative support, DG IUST enables Members and committees to shape sound legislative and policy outcomes.
DG IUST is responsible for organising the work of the following parliamentary committees:
- Committee on Culture and Education (CULT);
- Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI);
- Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE);
- Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO);
- Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM);
- Committee on Petitions (PETI);
- Special committee on the European Democracy Shield (EUDS).
The Secretariat of the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) is looking for a trainee with a legal background to join its dynamic team of about 20 people. The Secretariat assists the Committee and its Members in the legislative and non-legislative activities of JURI. During the period October 2026 - February 2027 the successful candidate will assist in developing the position of the Committee on important legislative files with an opportunity to be part of the legislative process at the Committee, Parliament and possibly inter-institutional level.

Your tasks
Your tasks will be:
- To assist in the legislative procedure at the Committee, Parliament and possibly inter-institutional level;
- To assist in the preparation of Committee decisions with regards to certain horizontal areas of its competence, such as legal basis or disputes;
- To assist in the organisation of committee events, such as public hearings or interparliamentary committee meetings, and other meetings relating to the committee work.
You are
You:
- Are curious, active, solution-oriented, flexible, willing to learn and open to new challenges;
- Have sense of diplomacy and discretion;
- Have strong interpersonal skills and like to work in a team;
- Have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship;
- Have a legal background and are interested in parliamentary law and procedures and in institutional questions.
