As the voice of citizens, the European Parliament stands for European democracy. The Directorate-General for Communication (DG COMM) amplifies its message of the Parliament to reach every corner of Europe. We help connect Members of Parliament (MEPs) to the people they represent, and we communicate what the Parliament is, what it does, and what it stands for. When Parliament speaks, we make sure it’s heard.
We are committed communication professionals coming from various professional and academic backgrounds.
As part of Parliament's commitment to honouring journalists who were killed during the exercise of their work, the Directorate for Media offers its Schuman traineeships in memory of Jan Kuciak, the Slovakian investigative journalist who was murdered in February 2018.
The Media Relations Unit (more commonly known as the Press Unit), part of the Media Directorate within Directorate General Communication in the European Parliament, mainly ensures that the legislative work of the European Parliament is communicated to the Media and in particular to the Brussels-based correspondents. It follows closely the work of all the parliamentary committees and of the plenary, and organises and coordinates press conferences and media briefings. It produces and distributes various news products each week as well as publishing press releases on parliamentary activity.
Your tasks
Assistance to press officers and/or audio-visual press with media coverage of parliamentary committees and plenary agendas, briefing summaries on legislative files and following press conferences, preparation/translation of press releases and newsletters and other media products into Greek and liaison with Greek journalists and the European Parliament's offices in Greece and in Cyprus.
You are
- You have a perfect (native-speaker equivalent) command of Greek;
- You have an academic or professional background and/or qualification in journalism/communication;
- Fluent in English;
- An interest and knowledge of European affairs would be an asset.
You have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship.
