As the voice of citizens, the European Parliament stands for European democracy. DG COMM amplifies its message of the Parliament to reach every corner of Europe. We help connect Members of Parliament to the people they represent, and we communicate what the Parliament is, what it does, and what it stands for. When Parliament speaks, we make sure it’s heard.
We are committed communication professionals coming from various professional and academic backgrounds.
The European Parliament's Audiovisual Unit provides essential services to raise the awareness of the European Parliament and guarantee the transparency of its political activities. Among many other services, we broadcast and stream the special events, the plenary sessions and the committee meetings and make all the necessary video and photo material available for journalists and producers.
The photo service of the Audiovisual Unit covers the main political activities of the European Parliament. The photos are published on the Multimedia Centre.
The Audiovisual Unit also provides video, audio and photo services to the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and offers audiovisual facilities such as TV studios, radio studios or camera crews to broadcast and webcast media undertakings.
As part of Parliament's commitment to honoring journalists who were killed during the exercise of their work, the Directorate for Media offers its Schuman traineeships in memory of Jan Kuciak, the Slovakian investigative journalist who was murdered in February 2018.
Your tasks
- Under the supervision of your supervisor, in charge of ensuring the work of an EP photographer (ensuring the shooting of events taking place in Parliament, selecting and editing photos intended for publication on the Parliament's Multimedia Center);
- You will also be in charge of the creation of the weekly newsletter of the Photo Service and some products dedicated to the promotion of the work of the AV unit on social networks;
- Your knowledge of photography software will be most useful with regard to archiving and restoration of the historical pictures of the European Parliament;
- You might also assist other service(s) in the unit.
You are
- You have experience in photography and a good knowledge of tools, such as Lightroom, Photoshop or Photomechanics;
- You have obtained a Vocational education qualification (EQF level 3, 4 or 5) or a University degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship.
- You have a very good command of English and/or French;
- You feel at ease when working in the heart of events such as EP Plenaries, press conferences, official visits or with Members of the European Parliament and their groups of visitors;
- You are a good team player with good time management skills and you are flexible with regard to working hours.
