Who we are

As the voice of citizens, the European Parliament stands for European democracy. The Directorate-General for Communication (DG COMM) amplifies its message of the Parliament to reach every corner of Europe. We help connect Members of Parliament to the people they represent, and we communicate what the Parliament is, what it does, and what it stands for. When Parliament speaks, we make sure it’s heard.

We are committed communication professionals coming from various professional and academic backgrounds.

In the Concept & Design Unit, we are responsible for branding, strategy, concept, copy and key visuals behind the European Parliament's major institutional campaigns like the next European Elections campaign, the Sakharov Prize, the LUX Film Prize, together.eu, etc. 

We strive to work like an in-house creative agency. 

The Concept & Design Unit is composed of two teams, the Concept team and the Design team. This role is within the Design team

 

Your tasks

Candidates should expect to do produce a wide variety of engaging and impactful designs across different formats/platforms, within the Design team and in collaboration with the Concept team.

You will work under the supervision of a senior colleague on the following tasks:

1. Graphic Design

  • Producing graphic designs and layouts for digital (social media, web) and print;
  • Working with the Concept & Design teams to develop ideas that deliver on conceptual requirements;
  • Working with copywriters to ensure correct and appropriate presentation of text on visuals;
  • Version designs in 24+ languages, producing variants at high volume;
  • Respecting brand guidelines (the European Parliament Brand Book);
  • Preparing presentations of your designs for the Concept & Design Board;
  • Managing design files and libraries.

2. Photo editing/research

  • Light photo editing as necessary for the graphic design;
  • Image researching.

3. Motion Design (not mandatory, but an advantage)

  • Creating animated graphics and videos using computer software such as Adobe After Effects or Adobe Premier Pro;
  • Transforming storyboards into animated sequences;
  • Managing files, animation libraries, and updating procedures documentation;
  • Integrating sound and syncing dialogue;
  • Creating illustrations, designs, and other artwork used in marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, and advertisements;
  • Designing motion graphics for use in commercials, video games, or other visual media productions;
  • Using computer software to create animations and special effects for commercials, movies, or other visual media productions;
  • Translating ideas into motion graphics that can be understood by a wide audience;
  • Creating motion graphics that communicate ideas effectively;
  • Using computer software such as Adobe After Effects or Adobe Premier Pro to create animations and special effects for commercials, movies, or other visual media production.

 

You are

  • You have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship in the domain of visual communication;
  • You have experience in working as a graphic designer, independently or in a team (agency, government, other organisation/company);
  • You have fluent skills in English;
  • You are highly creative, imaginative, and curious;
  • You have the ability to work well with a copywriting partner;
  • You have experience with the Adobe suite;
  • You have the ability to meet tight deadlines with high volumes of work.
