Who we are

The Directorate-General for Parliamentary Democracy Partnerships (DG PART) is tasked with fostering cooperation with national parliaments as well as coordinating the efforts made by Parliament liaison offices and representations outside of the European Union with the objective to streamline actions aimed at promoting and upholding parliamentary democracy in Europe and beyond. 

The DG PART Directorate for External Liaison Offices brings together European Parliament’s (EP) representation functions in third countries and international organisations, as well as the European Union Visitors Programme (EUVP).  The Directorate includes the European Parliament Liaison Office in the UK , the Liaison Office in Washington DC , as well as Parliament's staff representations at the United Nations in New York, at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Jakarta, at the African Union in Addis Ababa, in Ukraine, in Panama for the Latin America and Caribbean region, in Albania for the Western Balkans, and in the Republic of Moldova for the Eastern Partnership region. The mission of the Directorate for External Liaison Offices is to strengthen the European Parliament’s role in parliamentary and public diplomacy, thereby promoting parliamentary democracy worldwide. 

 

Your tasks

The trainee will be tasked with assisting the Directorate's staff in their duties, inter alia:

  • Help organise meetings and events in Brussels, supporting the day to day activities of the Directorate's headquarters in Brussels but also the activities of the external offices in Brussels or virtually;
  • Attend internal and external meetings, EP committee and delegation meetings, coordinating and cooperating with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Draft minutes and follow up documents, provide written contributions to speeches, presentations, briefings, letters etc;
  • Provide operational support as needed.

Horizontal tasks involving work with other entities in the Directorate-General can be expected.

The trainee should rapidly acquire a good knowledge of Parliament's structure and functioning. 

Some tasks of a practical and administrative nature can be expected. 

 

You are

The successful candidate will possess at least a bachelor's or a master's degree in a field relevant to the field of activity of the Directorate and should:

  • Be able to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Have excellent communication and drafting skills in English (French would be an asset);
  • Be able to communicate efficiently and tactfully with stakeholders both inside and outside the European Parliament;
  • Have a good sense of situational judgment;
  • Be well-organised and able to comply with deadlines;
  • Have a positive, "can-do" attitude;
  • Have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship.
