Who we are

As the voice of citizens, the European Parliament stands for European democracy. The Directorate-General for Communication (DG COMM) amplifies its message of the Parliament to reach every corner of Europe. We help connect Members of Parliament to the people they represent, and we communicate what the Parliament is, what it does, and what it stands for. When Parliament speaks, we make sure it’s heard.

We are committed communication professionals coming from various professional and academic backgrounds.

This offer is for the Budget and Data Analytics Unit. We have two missions:

  • Support an efficient and targeted allocation and use of financial resources;
  • Provide support for data analytics.

This traineeship is focused on the second one, the support for data analytics, in the Measurement, Evaluation and Reporting (MER) team. It is important to underline that you will probably not be in contact with the “budget” side of the unit.

The MER team is an easy-going, result-oriented environment where the most important thing is to get projects to move forward.

Your tasks

Here is a non-exhaustive list of the tasks at hand, they are all geared toward data and database management:

  • Support in evaluation and measurement of communication actions and campaigns;
  • Support in data collection and data cleaning;
  • Creation of graphs, with very little use of pie charts;
  • Building webservice connections and ETL (extract – transform – load);
  • Participation in on-site and off-site evaluation processes (such as the European Youth Event);
  • Participation in brainstorming sessions for ongoing development of data visualisation solutions.

You are

The MER team is looking for someone who:

  • Is eager to work with data and evaluation in general;
  • Obtained a university degree (EQF level 6 or above), at least three months before the traineeship starts.
  • Has basic knowledge of project management (resources, objectives, indicators etc.);
  • Communicates clearly and confidently, both in writing and speech, with minimal spelling or grammatical errors;
  • Has knowledge of MS Excel, this is a must;
  • Has knowledge of other IT solutions, this is a plus (we are currently working with Power BI, Azure/AWS and KNIME. If you know Python, we would be impressed);
  • Has a sharp and curious mind, quick to learn and capable of providing support for tasks related to data management;
  • Is solution-oriented and likes coffee.

The European Parliament is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace. We welcome all candidates, regardless of their geographical, racial or ethnic origin, political or religious beliefs, age, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, civil status, or family situation.
