The Directorate-General for Economy, Transformation and Industry (DG ECTI) supports the work of several key parliamentary committees and is committed to empowering Members of the European Parliament with the tools, expertise, and support they need to excel in their legislative, scrutiny, and budgetary roles. 

As a cornerstone of the European Parliament’s administrative structure, DG ECTI ensures the seamless functioning of committee activities, while fostering evidence-based decision-making informed by expert analysis and dedicated research services across the policy areas falling under its remit, including economic and monetary affairs, taxation, the internal market and consumer protection, industry, research and energy, the environment, climate, food safety, and public health.

As an integral part of DG ECTI, and with a view to strengthening Parliament’s legislative, budgetary, and oversight powers, our Unit - the Policy Department for Transformation, Innovation, and Health - provides objective, evidence-based expertise, analysis, and research of high quality within its area of competence. We particularly focus on the following three parliamentary committees: the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE); the Committee on Environment, Climate and Food Safety (ENVI); and the Committee on Public Health (SANT).

Our Unit’s core mission is to support these committees in all aspects of their work with tailored and timely expertise and research. To that end, we offer a broad range of products that are prepared either in-house or by external experts. These products include fact sheets, notes, briefings, analyses, studies, and “accompanying expertise” in support of files at any stage of the legislative process. Additionally, we organise workshops and study presentations where external experts engage with Members of the EP and staff, thus creating spaces for dialogue and knowledge exchange.

Joining us means contributing directly to our Unit’s mission, working alongside policy experts, and gaining valuable insight into how policymaking is shaped inside the EP.

We are seeking reinforcement for our ENVI team (environmental and climate policy, sustainable development, air, soil and water pollution, and food safety policies). During your traineeship – throughout which you will be actively mentored by an experienced supervisor – you will work on a wide spectrum of assignments, allowing you to gain in-depth insights into the work and procedures of the EP and our Policy Department in particular, as well as hands-on experience in a multicultural and multilingual environment. Your tasks will be both administrative-organisational and analytical and will include:

• Researching facts and analysing policies in the remit of the ENVI Committee, and monitoring the activities of related EU agencies and research centres;
• Contributing to briefing papers, including for missions undertaken by Committee Members to countries both within and outside the European Union;
• Assisting in the review of research at all stages of the process (planning, implementation, finalisation);
• Attending and reporting on committee meetings, conferences, and other events related to parliamentary work;
• Updating the relevant Fact Sheets on the European Union;
• Assisting with the organisation of workshops and presentations;
• Supporting work in other policy areas of the Unit, as required;
• Liaising and collaborating with various EP services, other EU institutions and external partners.

A motivated and open-minded university graduate with a profound interest in the policy areas of the ENVI Sector within the Policy Department for Transformation, Innovation, and Health. A degree in environmental management or science, natural sciences, European law, or political science - and/or practical experience in the field of environmental, climate, or food safety policies - would be an asset, but is not required.

• You have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship;
• You are committed and ready to engage in a mentored traineeship requiring not only a high level of independence and responsibility, but also critical thinking and judgment;
• You are skilled in analysing, managing, and organising information; you pay attention to detail, and you are a team player;
• You have a clear sense of responsibility and professional conscientiousness, as well as a very good command of English, both orally and in writing;
• You are interested in analytical work and research and keen to contribute to European policy-making as part of a welcoming team that looks forward to actively involving you in its work.
