Who we are

The Directorate-General for Finance, hereinafter DG FINS, is responsible for Parliament’s budgetary and financial management. Based in both Luxembourg and Brussels, it draws up Parliament's budget, keeps Parliament’s accounts and prepares its financial statements, manages Members' allowances and entitlements, and finances Parliament’s political groups, as well as political parties and foundations at European level. DG FINS consists of three Directorates, 17 Units and the Central Secretariat. DG FINS plays a key and varied role in Parliament’s administration and is a trusted interlocutor for Members and political authorities. Joining DG FINS as a trainee will certainly boost your career. The Directorate B, Directorate for Members’ Financial and Social Entitlements, is a dynamic directorate consisting of the Director’s team and 4 Units in charge of offering Members the necessary financial and social support to perform their duties. This includes managing Members’ salaries, reimbursement of their travel and subsistence expenses as well as expenses linked to their parliamentary assistance, and guidance in the management of their statutory rights.

We are looking for a motivated trainee to join the Director’s team. If you’re curious about the functioning of the European Parliament, have an interest in financial rules, enjoy drafting and want to see how rules translate into practical support for Members, this could be the right place for you!

 

Your tasks

  • Support the preparation of video tutorials and info sessions for Members, by drafting and reviewing video transcripts, checking accuracy and helping to present rules in a clearer and easier to understand way;
  • Assist in drafting and updating brochures, FAQs and website information on Members’ financial and social entitlements. Make sure that the content on the internal EP website and other communication channels is regularly updated and the information is accurate;
  • Monitoring and reporting on committee work and meetings of Committee on Budgets (BUDG), Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT) and plenary votes where relevant to the activities of Directorate B;
  • Contribute to the follow-up of activities related to Members’ financial and social entitlements, including research, analysis of information and drafting replies to queries. 

 

You are

We are looking for a proactive trainee who brings curiosity and new ideas to the team!  

You should also have:

  • Strong interest in the EU: you have a general knowledge on how the institutions work and want to learn more from the inside;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills: you enjoy writing and make difficult topics clear and understandable;
  • Excellent organisational and analytical skills, flexibility and ability to work within deadlines;
  • Language proficiency in both spoken and written English. Knowledge of French is highly desirable. Any other language would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams);
  • Knowledge of Content Management Systems (CMS) would be an asset;
  • Great team spirit: you enjoy working with colleagues in a multicultural environment, sharing your ideas and contributing to a good atmosphere.
