Who we are
The Directorate-General for Citizens' Rights, Justice and Institutional Affairs (DG IUST) organises and facilitates the work of parliamentary committees in key areas such as culture, education, legal and constitutional affairs, gender equality, civil liberties, petitions and democracy protection. Through high-quality research, expert advice, and administrative support, DG IUST enables Members and committees to shape sound legislative and policy outcomes.
The Secretariat of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs supports the Members of the committee in their daily legislative and scrutiny work in the field of Justice and Home Affairs (from the organisation of committee meetings, and providing advice on rules and procedures, to support during interinstitutional legislative negotiations, drafting of briefing and feedback notes, etc.).
The Internal Security deals with i.e. legislative proposals in the field of EU Internal security, police cooperation, Schengen and border management, visa policy.
Your tasks
Tasks will include: contributing to the activities of the Secretariat, by working with different administrators - working in the areas of EU Internal security, police cooperation, Schengen and border management, visa policy - on the preparation of legislative proposals, non-legislative own-initiative reports, oral questions and resolutions, discussions in committees, hearings, delegation visits, etc., participation in meetings and seminars, drafting minutes, research and preparation of files, contribution to working documents, draft reports/opinions, participation in the organisation of events (e.g. hearings and workshops).
You are
You have an academic background in law, political science or justice and home affairs-related, as well as any relevant practical experience in any areas of LIBE competence will be appreciated.
Following their traineeship in our unit, several of former trainees have pursued their careers in LIBE-related matters (for instance, working with MEPs and political groups of the European Parliament, in EU or national institutions, or NGOs) while others have continued their studies in European Law.
