Who we are
The Directorate-General for Budgetary Affairs (DG BUDG) is responsible for organising the work of Parliament's committees on budgets and budgetary control and for providing policy support and analyses in the field of budget to committees and parliamentary bodies.
- We are a team of 17 colleagues of 12 different nationalities;
- We assist the Committee on Budgets (BUDG) and the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT), their Members and secretariats, and other parliamentary bodies by providing in-house and external expertise in the form of briefings, studies, analysis and workshops;
- We work closely with the BUDG and CONT Secretariats, other parliamentary research and analysis units, and external partners such as national parliaments, universities and European think tanks;
- Due to the horizontal nature of the two committees, our work can cover all EU policies, from competitiveness, cohesion and crisis response, to fraud and the rule of law;
- Our analysis facilitates parliamentary procedures, such as the annual budgetary procedure, scrutiny of the implementation and management of the EU budget in the annual discharge procedure, and the upcoming negotiations on the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF);
- We also follow the work of institutions such as European Union Anti-Fraud Office, the European Court of Auditors and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, in addition to the EU agencies.
