Who we are

The Directorate-General for Budgetary Affairs (DG BUDG) is responsible for organising the work of Parliament's committees on budgets and budgetary control and for providing policy support and analyses in the field of budget to committees and parliamentary bodies.

We are a new unit, which has been set up to strengthen the European Parliament in its role as budget and discharge authority. The aim of the unit is to support Parliament’s priorities by providing technical and strategic analyses of budget-related data sets, calculations and simulations for committees and other parliamentary bodies. We assist two important committees in the Parliament: the Committee on Budgets (BUDG) and the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT). These committees prepare the decisions   of the Parliament regarding the EU budget and its control (discharge). The unit is also tasked with developing ways to increase the visibility of EP budget and discharge positions through better communication and visualisation.

Our team is currently expanding; it will be composed of colleagues of different nationalities, of different expertise (i.e. economists, data analysts, EU policy analysts, statisticians, IT staff). We work closely with the secretariats of the committees, the other analytical unit in our Directorate - the Budget Support Unit as well as with other analytical and research units in the Parliament’s administration and with external partners such as other EU institutions, national parliaments, universities, European think-tanks.
