Why choose a traineeship at DG EPRS?

'Empowering through knowledge' is the guiding principle of EPRS. As an EPRS trainee, you will be exposed to the core of the research and analysis process in the European Parliament. Surrounded by colleagues working on publications covering a wide range of EU policies, you will gain detailed knowledge of the EP's workings while honing your skills in your specific topic of interest. If you choose a traineeship in one of EPRS's library units, you will help the parliamentary community find the resources they need for their work.

The Strategy, Coordination and Outreach Unit is a central service in the European Parliamentary Research Service directly attached to the office of the Director General. Our main objectives consist of assisting the Director General in, inter alia:

  • Pursuing a coherent internal and external communication strategy for the DG;
  • Coordinating services to Members and their staff;
  • Engaging in outreach and enhancing cooperation with global, European, national, regional and local governmental institutions, as well as think tanks and universities;
  • Organisation of EPRS events and joint events with partners;
  • Overseeing horizontal issues within the DG;
  • Ensuring effective inter-DG cooperation within the Parliament's administration.

Your tasks

The traineeship involves several, varied tasks which will allow you to familiarise yourself with multiple facets of activity in the EP. You will contribute to the intensive outreach and communication activities of EPRS' 'Members' Needs and Support Team' and you will be highly involved in the work of the DG's 'Communications and Multimedia Team'. In addition, you will assist the ‘Outreach team’ to build and maintain close partnerships with relevant external stakeholders and you will support the organisation of multiple online and physical events and conferences.

Concrete tasks include:

  • Contacting Members' offices to pro-actively alert them about the wide range of EPRS publications and services and to promote these;
  • Generating statistics and reports on client usage of services and of user feedback;
  • Coordination and provision of useful content for our various communication and social media channels;
  • Contributing to innovation and optimisation of activities in the area of (digital) communication, publishing of (multi-media) content and outreach to several audiences;
  • Assisting with our outreach activities to build lasting partnerships with relevant stakeholders and potential multipliers in a system of multilevel governance.

You are

  • An enthusiastic, highly pro-active, outgoing, well-organised and communicative person, who has a genuine interest in helping EPRS to reach out to and serve Members of the European Parliament and by extension the whole House, as well as to the outside world;
  • Preferably, you have a university degree in the field of political science, international or European affairs, (digital) communication, or another social science or a linked area;
  • Having experience in handling data (MS Excel) and common practices for publishing online content would be an asset.

The European Parliament is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace. We welcome all candidates, regardless of their geographical, racial or ethnic origin, political or religious beliefs, age, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, civil status, or family situation.
