The European Parliament stands for European democracy. We help connect it to people.

We work to provide complete and impartial information to citizens and media about the European Parliament and assist our Members in their communication activities.

The Directorate-General for Communication (DG COMM) strives to reach and engage the right audience with the right message at the right time and in doing so, deliver world-class communication. We are committed communication professionals coming from various professional and academic backgrounds.

Visiting the European Parliament enables citizens to build a direct relationship with the European institutions and examine Europe from a European perspective. The visiting facilities, such as the Hemicycle, Parlamentarium, House of European History and Info Hub in Brussels, the Hemicycle in Strasbourg and the Europa Experiences in member states, receive a wide variety of visitors from families to young people and groups from the educational sector. Different activities, such as events, temporary exhibitions and role-play games cater to various interests, whether academic or curious. These activities are run by the Directorate for Visitors.

In addition to running the Info Hub facility - which displays topical content and hosts the range of public and stakeholder events (conferences, debates, book launches, film screenings, exhibitions and information sessions) -  the Info Hub Unit is responsible for visitors support within the Directorate for Visitors including promoting the visitor offer, managing the visitor website and the booking tool to keeping in touch after the visit and improving the visitor experience is the. Innovation is at the heart of our work, as the unit is also responsible for flagship events like Europe Day.

Within the Unit, the data and IT projects team delivers projects in the domain of data, digital communication and data protection. It supports the communication of the unit and the directorate by providing innovative solutions and data analysis and makes sure all actions are compliant with the EUDPR.

 

Your tasks

Working in the Info Hub Unit, will give you the chance to work with many people who deal with a range of projects. This will enable you to learn how the European Parliament communicates to various audiences through the visitor facilities. Besides, you will have the opportunity to develop a variety of skills, from copywriting to writing reports, digital communication and project management.  
Tasks can vary from assisting in meetings and producing communication materials to developing new management systems. Depending on needs of the unit at the time, we may be able to tailor your traineeship to your interests. 

Every traineeship is different, depending on the priorities of the unit at the time. You will be part of the data and IT team of the Unit and will mostly focus on the objectives of your team. However, you will work with other teams, too.

Your tasks will include:

  • Assist with the work of the unit to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Assist with management and coordination including research, brainstorming, taking part in meetings, data handling and working on the administrative processes behind many of the actions of the Directorate for Visitors;
  • Work on the communication activities of the unit, such as email outreach, social media and marketing campaigns;
  • Work with the public at B2C events and in feedback activities;
  • Be in charge of creating surveys and preparing reports for different visitor facilities;
  • Support the high volume of work relating to drafting, editing, proofreading and translating in your mother tongue.

 

You are

Our ideal candidate, who will be 'Digital Communication Assistant - Data and IT':

  • Has an interest in seeing the work of administrators working in communications;
  • Wants to develop the ways the European Parliament communicates to citizens; 
  • Can identify what is necessary for citizens to know and able to explain it in their language;
  • Is prepared to work on variety of tasks, across different projects, with a number of colleagues;
  • Quickly understands a brief;
  • Can independently complete tasks;
  • Can comply with tight deadlines. 

Candidates with an excellent knowledge of English and French or Dutch are particularly encouraged to apply.
