Who we are

The Directorate-General for Economy, Transformation and Industry (DG ECTI) supports the work of several key parliamentary committees and is committed to empowering Members of the European Parliament with the tools, expertise, and support they need to excel in their legislative, scrutiny, and budgetary roles.

As a cornerstone of the European Parliament’s administrative structure, DG ECTI ensures the seamless functioning of committee activities, while fostering evidence-based decision-making informed by expert analysis and dedicated research services across the policy areas falling under its remit, including economic and monetary affairs, taxation, the internal market and consumer protection, industry, research and energy, the environment, climate, food safety, and public health.

We are the Secretariat of the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Tax Matters (FISC). Established in September 2020, FISC addresses a wide range of tax-related issues, including corporate and individual taxation, VAT, excise duties (such as carbon tax), as well as efforts to combat tax fraud, evasion and avoidance, and to enhance financial transparency for taxation purposes. The Subcommittee has 30 Members and meets on a monthly basis; you can find more information on FISC on the website of the European Parliament.

The Secretariat's daily work consists in supporting the Subcommittee's Chair and Members in their activities. We provide assistance to the Committee Chair in the preparation of committee meetings and in ensuring that they run smoothly and in full compliance of parliament's rules of procedure. We support rapporteurs in the preparation of their reports, organise hearings of experts, exchange of views with Ministers, Commission representatives or national parliaments and prepare missions to EU Member States and third countries.

We are a relatively small but dynamic team, which values dedication and team spirit. We are happy to welcome new faces to our unit.

Your tasks

You will be quickly integrated in the team and fully involved in the ongoing work of the secretariat, ranging from organising public hearings and conferences (e.g. EU Tax Symposium) on tax related issues as well as delegation trips to EU Member States or third countries to assisting in drafting reports and carrying out background research.

You will actively participate in the preparation and follow-up of committee meetings and will be given tasks and responsibilities, fully contributing to the support of the Members of the Subcommittee under the supervision of your colleagues in the FISC Secretariat. This will allow you to get an insider's understanding of how the European Parliament contributes to shaping the EU’s tax policies and how it interacts with other EU institutions, Member States, international organizations, and stakeholders.

You are

  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic and eager to learn and contribute to our work;
  • Able to work independently, suggest initiatives and value team spirit;
  • Fluent in English (advanced skills in other languages are a valuable asset);
  • Someone with excellent drafting and communication skills, and the ability to react quickly to requests;
  • Able to demonstrate the flexibility and political sensitivity required in a political environment like the European Parliament.

Studies or previous professional experience related to taxation are a plus.

The European Parliament is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace. We welcome all candidates, regardless of their geographical, racial or ethnic origin, political or religious beliefs, age, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, civil status, or family situation.
