Who we are

The Directorate for Committee Coordination and Legislative Activities (CCLA) provides coordination and expertise on all horizontal issues related to the activities of the committees in the European Parliament. The Directorate also addresses and promotes the common needs of committees in their legislative, scrutiny and budgetary activities, and highlights the work of the committees through various communication channels. The secretariat of the Conference of Committee Chairs is also provided by the Directorate.

Why choose a traineeship at CCLA?

The European Parliament’s committees play a crucial role in Parliament’s legislative, scrutiny and budgetary activities, as they are responsible for preparing Parliament’s positions, in particular on new legislative proposals. As a CCLA trainee, you will be involved in parliamentary committee work at a horizontal level, which will give you a good understanding and broad overview of committee work in the European Parliament. You will be surrounded by experienced colleagues who are involved in negotiations in the context of the ordinary legislative procedure, coordinate Parliamentary committees, including through the preparation of the Conference of Committee Chairs (CCC), or work towards the promotion of committee work through various means.

The Committee Coordination and Legislative Programming Unit (CoordLeg) provides advice and coordinates the work of parliamentary committees in all activities of common interest (missions, public hearings, own-initiative (INI) reports, etc.) with the aim of ensuring the coherent implementation of the Rules of Procedure.

CoordLeg represents the interests of committees vis-a-vis other parliamentary bodies and EP services and acts as a contact point between the committee secretariats and Parliament’s governing bodies.

The unit provides advice to committee secretariats and other services, as well as to the hierarchy, on committee work and procedural questions. It facilitates the exchange of best practices among committee secretariats and provides guidance in the application of Parliament's Rules of Procedure and decisions of the governing bodies.

CoordLeg prepares recommendations and guidelines on horizontal matters of importance for committees, both at administrative level as well as for political endorsement at the level of the Conference of Committee Chairs, for which it acts as the secretariat.
