Who we are

The Cabinet of the European Parliament President contributes to the work of the President in helping people recapture a sense of belief and enthusiasm for the European project. Making our shared space safer, fairer and more equal and forging a stronger Europe that motivates a younger and more sceptical audience to believe in Europe.

The President’s Office is essentially divided into three main Teams: Policy, Communications and Protocol. 

The Communication and Press relations team is responsible for the President’s press relations, communication, public events, social media, outreach, speech writing as well as internal communication within the European Parliament.

 

Your tasks

The trainees in the President’s Office will perform tasks within the competence of Communications and Policy teams in order to have the full understanding of the complexity and the multi-faceted nature of the President’s role.

The trainee will perform a variety of tasks that may include:

  • Research the latest developments on EU legislative files;
  • Assist in the drafting of briefings for the President's meetings relating to EU policies;
  • Participate in committee meetings and prepare minutes;
  • Draft analyses of committee and plenary votes in Parliament;
  • Support the practical and logistic organisation of the President's missions to Member States and third countries;
  • Assist in the preparation of the various correspondence, reports and notes;
  • Follow-up on activities in relation to official events and the President's missions;
  • Research information on a variety of subjects to support the President's missions;
  • Press reviews, analysis of media content, and media monitoring;
  • Drafting of briefings, bios of leaders and journalists, background notes and defensives;
  • Transcription of speeches and interviews, and drafting interview responses;
  • Covering press conferences and public events;
  • Preparing content for social media;
  • Basic speech and article writing;
  • Provide support to the Cabinet policies and communications teams in their daily tasks.

 

You are

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated candidate who is passionate about the EU and enthusiastic about experiencing how the European Parliament functions.

Essential:

  • Excellent organisational skills, flexibility and ability to work with deadlines;
  • Language proficiency in English, both written and orally is highly desirable. Any other EU languages would be an asset;
  • Preferable background would be in the domain of Political Sciences, Law, Journalism, Communication or Social sciences;
  • Openness to work in a multicultural and fast-paced environment and in a team with good degree of personal autonomy;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Detail-oriented and a meticulous approach pro-active, motivated, curious, innovative and be able to switch with relative ease on different topics;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office package (including Outlook).

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the EU institutions and understanding of EU decision-making;
  • General knowledge of the main European media;
  • Good understanding of social media.
