Who we are

The Directorate-General for Infrastructure and Logistics (DG INLO) is responsible for overseeing the European Parliament's vast infrastructure portfolio, which spans 1.2 million square meters of building space across Europe. This includes a variety of tasks that are crucial to ensuring the smooth functioning and sustainability of the Parliament's operations. DG INLO's responsibilities go beyond just building management; it is also in charge of a range of essential services such as catering, mail distribution, furniture management, and transport for Parliament Members and staff. This comprehensive approach ensures that all physical and logistical needs are met, supporting the European Parliament’s political activities in a sustainable way.

Within DG INLO, the Brussels Environmental and Sustainable Upgrade Unit oversees the SPAAK building renovation project.

 

Your tasks

In the context of the development of its activities, the Brussels Environmental and Sustainable Upgrade Unit of DG INLO is looking for a person with a qualification in Civil or Mechanical & Engineering applied to building sector, for the SPAAK Building Renovation project.

The trainee will assist our team, in charge of the SPAAK Renovation project, concerning the renovation of Parliament’s central building in Brussels. 

As part of its work, the team is in contact with various consultant and contractors to carry out the project. 

As regards the project to renew the SPAAK building hosting the hemicycle, in addition to its high symbolic value, it is intended to be exemplary from an environmental point of view. The assistance will focus on launching the design studies for the agreed project scope.

 

You are

  • We are looking for a Civil or Mechanical & Electrical engineer interested in participating in the project and having a basic knowledge of one or more technical fields of construction of buildings and ideally with initial experience of one or more phases of projects, from consultation of users to the execution of the various works.
  • The interest in the various materials and their application in interior and new building projects, as well as knowledge of the energy performance of buildings and the use of renewable resources will be greatly appreciated.
  • Experience in computer assisted design and simulation software, is welcomed.
  • Although several languages are spoken in the unit, a good command of French or English is required.
  • Good oral and written communication is required.

The selected person will have the opportunity to implement their skills on the project. They will also be invited to expand their experience in all project phases as developed in both units at the time of the traineeship. They will have to show dynamism, initiative and appreciate teamwork. 

The traineeship will be an opportunity to work in a multicultural context and to approach the reality of the European institutions from within.
