Who we are
The Directorate-General for Budgetary Affairs is responsible for organising the work of Parliament's committees on budgets and budgetary control and for providing policy support and analyses in the field of budget to committees and parliamentary bodies.
We are a team of 12 colleagues with 9 different nationalities. We assist two important committees in the Parliament: the Committee on Budgets (BUDG) and the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT). These committees prepare the decisions of the Parliament regarding the EU budget and its control. Due to the horizontal nature of the two committees, we work potentially on all EU policies, from Foreign Relations and Development Aid, Home Affairs, Migration and Justice, to Economic, Social and Environmental issues, from a budgetary (control) point of view.
We provide internal and external expertise in the form of briefings, studies, country reports, and workshops. We work closely with the secretariats of the committees and the other policy departments and research units, as well as with external partners such as national Parliaments, Universities, European think-tanks. We deal with a variety of different topics and institutions such as the annual EU budget, EU resources, Multi-annual Financial Framework, implementation, management and control of the EU budget, fraud and irregularities, OLAF, European Court of Auditors, EPPO, EU agencies, etc.
