Who we are
The Directorate-General for Economy, Transformation and Industry (DG ECTI) is responsible for supporting the work of several key parliamentary committees dealing with economic governance, environmental policy, industrial transformation and cybersecurity. As such, it plays a pivotal role in shaping policies related to economic and monetary affairs, taxation, internal market and consumer protection, industry, research and energy, the environment, food safety, and public health.
Furthermore, through the provision of expert analysis and dedicated research services, DG ECTI aims to empower Members of the European Parliament to develop evidence-based policies that address the needs and concerns of European citizens, while also contributing to the effective exercise and development of the Parliament's legislative and scrutiny powers.
The Directorate-General for Economy, Transformation and Industry retains a variety of parliamentary committees, 2 policy departments and 1 subcommittee: the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON), Committee on the Environment, Climate and Food Safety (ENVI), Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO), Committee on Public Health (SANT), Economic Governance and EMU Scrutiny (EGOV), the Policy Department of Directorate for Economy and Growth, the Policy Department of Directorate for Transformation, Innovation and Health and the Subcommittee on Tax Matters (FISC). The Directorate-General provides support to the Members of the various committees in their daily legislative and non-legislative work, to the President’s Cabinet and to other parliamentary bodies in shaping legislation and exercising democratic scrutiny over EU internal policies.
The Directorate-General and its units contribute to the legislative process by adopting reports submitted to the plenary, conducting negotiations with the Council on EU legislation, adopting own-initiative reports, organising hearings with experts or petitioners, scrutinising other EU bodies and institutions’ actions and organising delegations to Member States or third countries.
We are characterised by our close and regular in-house contacts, i.e. the hierarchy of our Directorate-General as well as the Secretariat-General of the European Parliament, parliamentary committee secretariats and Chairs, working groups or parliamentary delegations and tight and strong relations with national authorities. DG ECTI coordinates financial dossiers, human resource aspects and provides support to Heads of Unit, while targeting the objectives of DG ECTI and assisting Directorate-General staff.
