Who we are
The Directorate-General for Finance, hereinafter DG FINS, is responsible for Parliament’s budgetary and financial management. Based in both Luxembourg and Brussels, it draws up Parliament's budget, keeps Parliament’s accounts and prepares its financial statements, manages Members' allowances and entitlements, and finances Parliament’s political groups, as well as political parties and foundations at European level. DG FINS consists of three Directorates, 17 Units and the Central Secretariat. DG FINS plays a key and varied role in Parliament’s administration and is a trusted interlocutor for Members and political authorities. Joining DG FINS as a trainee will certainly boost your career. Directorate C, Political Structures Financing and Resources, is a dynamic directorate consisting of 5 Units. A significant part of our activity relates to the financing of the political structures, i.e., European political parties and foundations, political groups, non-attached Members, and parliamentary associations. We also manage services in the fields of human resources, travel, and information technology.
We are looking for a motivated trainee to assist the director and their team with financial and administrative duties pertaining to the above-mentioned fields of work.
Your tasks
Tasks include:
- Following up on the activities of the financing of political parties and foundations, political groups and parliamentary associations;
- Monitoring and reporting on committee work of Committee on Budgets (BUDG), Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT), Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO), and plenary votes where relevant to the activities of Directorate C;
- Conducting research, drafting memos, preparing presentations;
- Drafting and revising reports, notes, and internal communication documents;
- Providing administrative support and assistance to the Director and their team while carrying out their daily tasks (such as organising meetings, drafting agendas and keeping minutes).
You are
You should be proactive, curious and able to switch between different tasks and topics with relative ease.
You should also have:
- Excellent organisational skills, flexibility and an ability to work with deadlines;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong analytical skills and a keen eye for detail;
- Language proficiency in both spoken and written English. Knowledge of French is highly desirable. Knowledge of any other language would be an asset;
- Knowledge of the basic Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook);
- Openness to work in a multicultural, fast-paced environment and in a team, with good degree of personal autonomy.
Preferably, your background would be in the domain of Finance, Audit, European Law, Public Administration, or European Governance.
