Secretariat of the Committee on Regional Development

The Directorate-General for Cohesion, Agriculture and Social Policies (DG CASP) is responsible for organising the work of the Parliament’s AGRI, EMPL, HOUS, PECH, REGI, and TRAN Committees and for assisting Members in the exercise of the legislative, budgetary and oversight powers conferred upon the European Parliament.

We are the Secretariat of the European Parliament’s Committee on Regional Development (REGI) in DG CASP. We are a multicultural and multilingual team of 15 colleagues from all corners of Europe, and we are happy to welcome new faces to our unit.

Our committee, REGI, is in charge of the EU’s regional development and cohesion policy within the European Parliament. The committee meets on a monthly basis and has 41 members; you can find more information on the REGI current files and activities here.

Our main work is legislation and the related procedures. If you join our team, you will learn about the European Parliament and committee work, how EU laws are made, how the EU budget works and what cohesion policy means in practice. You will also discover what it means to be a committee member, and how the Parliament’s political groups work. 

Committee work is the core business of the Parliament, so you will experience and learn a lot in five months.

Your tasks will depend on the files that we will be dealing with when you join our unit. Trainees usually help the officials of the unit in preparing parliamentary reports and opinions, as well as in all related tasks.

• Your work would include, for example, drafting texts for reports and opinions, attending meetings with MEPs and Commission or Council staff, drafting minutes, memos, and articles for newsletters;
• You would also conduct background research, extract and compile information from documents for briefings for the hierarchy;
• You might update documents (such as factsheets) and databases with new information, attend events, and report back on them;
• Sometimes, we also need help with organizing meetings, public hearings, and missions.

• We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic colleague who thrives in a multicultural environment and is eager to learn about committee work and the European Parliament;
• Fluency in English is essential, and advanced skills in other languages are an asset;
• While a background in regional development or European studies is appreciated, it is not required;
• We hope you will take an interest in the topics covered by our committee.

This position is suitable for graduates from any discipline.
