Who we are
The Directorate-General for Finance, hereinafter DG FINS, is responsible for Parliament’s budgetary and financial management. Based in both Luxembourg and Brussels, it draws up Parliament's budget, keeps Parliament’s accounts and prepares its financial statements, manages Members' allowances and entitlements, and finances Parliament’s political groups, as well as political parties and foundations at European level. DG FINS consists of three Directorates, 17 Units and the Central Secretariat. DG FINS plays a key and varied role in Parliament’s administration and is a trusted interlocutor for Members and political authorities. Joining DG FINS as a trainee will certainly boost your career. This traineeship will take place in the Strategy, Innovation and Communication Unit (SICOM). The SICOM team forms part of DG FINS’ Central Secretariat, reporting directly to the Director-General. Among other things, it elaborates DG FINS multiannual strategy under the supervision of the Director-General and designs various types of communications, social media contents, and initiatives to foster the information flow and well-being at work. The SICOM Unit is also in charge of the Schuman Trainee coordination within DG FINS.
Your tasks
As a trainee working in the unit, you will contribute mainly to innovation and communication related subjects, concerning the DG FINS’ technological and collaboration tools, positioning DG FINS as an increasing environmental player in Parliament’s milieu or fostering an client-oriented approach of DG FINS’ relations with Members. You will also collaborate with DG FINS’ communication agency on topics including the DG’s intranet, social media, events and campaigns. Among other things, you will be involved in:
- Monitoring technological innovation in the field of communication;
- Participating to the setting up of events and initiatives both in Luxembourg and Brussels;
- Setting up various communication and information materials;
- Managing DG FINS community by administering various communication channels and social media;
- Daily monitoring of media outlets of the Parliament other political entities.
You are
- Academically trained in Public Administration, Social Sciences, Communications and/or Public Relations;
- Autonomous, with strong organisational and planning skills and a sense of initiative;
- Strong on interpersonal skills and with a curious, energetic and responsive attitude;
- Innovative and creative, with the abilities to analyse, synthesise and report;
- Open to working in a multicultural and fast-paced environment;
- An active listener with a high degree of emotional intelligence;
- A good copywriter with strong media reporting skills;
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office; knowledge of further digital tools such as the Adobe Creative Suite would be an asset;
- A very good communicator in English, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of French would be an advantage.
