Who we are

The Directorate-General for Economy, Transformation and Industry (DG ECTI) is responsible for supporting the work of several key parliamentary committees dealing with economic governance, environmental policy, industrial transformation and cybersecurity. As such, it plays a pivotal role in shaping policies related to economic and monetary affairs, taxation, internal market and consumer protection, industry, research and energy, the environment, food safety, and public health.

Furthermore, through the provision of expert analysis and dedicated research services, DG ECTI aims to empower Members of the European Parliament to develop evidence-based policies that address the needs and concerns of European citizens, while also contributing to the effective exercise and development of the Parliament's legislative and scrutiny powers.

We are the Secretariat of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), one of the largest committees in the European Parliament.

ITRE's policy remit is both wide-ranging and rich in content. As a result, ITRE offers trainees a true cross-cutting experience that covers European Union energy, research and innovation, industrial, space and telecoms/digital policies. Each of these areas is an essential component of the European Union's internal market and has a direct impact on the lives of its citizens. ITRE Committee has a wide legislative portfolio. Trainees in ITRE will have the opportunity to experience first-hand the legislative process inside the European Parliament, all the way from the drafting phase right up to vote and adoption in plenary.
