Who we are
The Directorate-General for Economy, Transformation and Industry (DG ECTI) is responsible for supporting the work of several key parliamentary committees dealing with economic governance, environmental policy, industrial transformation and cybersecurity. As such, it plays a pivotal role in shaping policies related to economic and monetary affairs, taxation, internal market and consumer protection, industry, research and energy, the environment, food safety, and public health.
Furthermore, through the provision of expert analysis and dedicated research services, DG ECTI aims to empower Members of the European Parliament to develop evidence-based policies that address the needs and concerns of European citizens, while also contributing to the effective exercise and development of the Parliament's legislative and scrutiny powers.
The Committee on the Environment, Climate and Food Safety (ENVI) is responsible for topical policy areas such as climate change, the protection of biodiversity, the circular economy, food safety, the use of chemicals and pesticides, just to name a few. During the last legislature, the ENVI Committee was the key committee dealing with the European Green Deal and the European Health Union. For more information, have a look at the ENVI activity report.
The ENVI Secretariat is composed of a dynamic, versatile and multicultural team of around 30 people. The Secretariat provides MEPs in the ENVI Committee with written and oral assistance (preparing basic files, briefing notes, organisation of hearings, voting lists, draft reports and opinions, amendments) and helps to organise the work of the parliamentary body by drafting agendas, notes for the chair and political group coordinators.
The Secretariat also assists the Committee in scrutinising the work of the European Commission and of the specialised agencies falling under ENVI’s remit.
The competences of the Committee on Environment, Climate and Food Safety, as well as more information on its activities can be found on the website of the European Parliament.
