Europa Experience Unit

The European Parliament stands for democracy. We help connect it to people.  

This entails providing complete and impartial information to citizens and media about the European Parliament, and assisting Members in their communication activities. 

The Directorate-General for Communication  (DG COMM) strives to reach the right audience with the right message at the right time and in doing so, deliver world-class communication. We are committed communication professionals coming from various professional and academic backgrounds.

Visiting the European Parliament enables citizens to build a direct relationship with the European institutions and examine Europe from a European perspective. The European Parliament aims to offer an unrivalled visitor experience among parliaments. As part of DG COMM, these activities are run by the Directorate for Visitors. Citizens are welcome to experience visits to the Parlamentarium, Info Hub and House of European History in Brussels, the Hemicycles in Brussels and Strasbourg, and Europa Experiences around the Europe.

Within the Directorate for Visitors, the Europa Experience Unit is responsible for the deployment of the network of Europa Experience permanent interactive spaces (exhibition and EU events hub) across the EU Capital cities and regional offices. These decentralised visitor facilities aim to relay a same message that Europeans stand stronger together to face the day’s challenges by bringing Europe closer to the citizens and raising their awareness on the significance of the work done by the EU, its democratic functioning and the challenges Europeans tackle together.

Each Europa Experience is made up of a core set of Europa Experience media stations presenting the European democracy, the Members of Parliament and their work, the main political and policy issues at stake, the EU decision making system, its impact on Europeans’ daily lives, and within it the role of MEPs when exerting Parliament constitutional & assent, legislative, budgetary and scrutiny roles in the EU;  an immersive cinema offers a full panorama of Europe, its leadership and achievements, as well as the main challenges facing the European democracies; and depending on the available space, a Role Play Game for school groups allows younger audiences to experience the legislative role of MEPs and the main steps of the ordinary legislative procedure.

The Unit is in charge of the conception, purchase and installation of the multimedia stations, the audio-visual and software contents, as well as the communication elements of the visitors’ facilities in the remaining EU Capitals and regional offices. The Unit is also in charge of the design and implementation of DG COMM’s Role Play Game strategy. 

Working in the Europa Experience Unit within the Directorate for Visitors, you will have the chance to know more about the European Parliament’s decentralised offer for visitors in the Member States.

During this traineeship, you will deal with the administrative, communication, content and project management aspects of the coming to life of a Europa Experience interactive space.

You will work across different project teams and carry out the following tasks, in coordination with the respective Team leader/Project Manager:

• Facilitating the preparation of communication material on the Unit’s projects: presentations, project/content descriptions, intranet/web monitoring, proofreading;
• Assisting specific Europa Experience projects: supporting the project manager (PM) and project assistant (PA) in project monitoring, meetings with contractors, project reporting, project follow-up;
• Contributing to the content team with the development and update of the various exhibition content;
• Providing administrative support to the admin team: preparing agendas, taking and sharing notes at meetings, assist in the organisation of meetings/workshops/events;
• Providing support in performance management and collection of indicators (including social media monitoring);
• Following all activities in the organisation structure and facilitating internal coordination among project teams. 

Being a trainee in the Europa Experience Unit is a valuable chance to discover at first-hand the work of the European Parliament to get closer to the citizens through the direct involvement in the coming to life of a Europa Experience. The position also allows to delve into the dynamics at play behind this endeavor, both between DG COMM, the Directorate-General for Infrastructure and Logistics (DG INLO) and the European Parliament Liaison Offices (EPLOs), and inter-institutional between the EP and European Commission.

Applicants should have an interest in seeing the administrative and project management of the European Parliament, as well as communication and content coordination structures.
