Role of the Legal Service:
To provide legal advice to the Institution, its organs and its General Secretariat and represent it in litigation proceedings before the Courts of the European Union as well as national courts.
Description of the Economic and Scientific Policies Unit:
The Economic and Scientific Policy Unit is one of three Units that make up the Legal Service’s Directorate for Legislative Affairs. Members of the Unit serve as legal advisers to Parliament’s ECON (Economic Affairs), EMPL (Employment), ENVI (Environment), IMCO (Internal Market), ITRE (Industry and Research) and SANT (Public health) committees. They are also responsible for litigation in the corresponding policy areas.
By joining our Unit, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in legislative work and observe it at close quarters by taking part in preparations for drawing up and negotiating EU legislation that has a major impact on our daily lives. In addition, you will have the opportunity to be involved in the handling of litigation cases falling within the Unit’s remit and to attend at least one hearing before the EU Court of Justice.
Your tasks
Assisting the Unit’s lawyers and Head of Unit by:

- undertaking research work (doctrine, jurisprudence);
- preparing files (documentation, analysis);
- Attending parliamentary committee meetings in Brussels and a plenary session in Strasbourg;
- Attending various meetings;
- Attending a hearing before the Court of Justice in Luxembourg;
Any other task relating to the daily work of the Unit’s lawyers.

Selection criteria:
- Law Degree - preferably Master 2
- Basic language skills: English and French
