Who we are

The Directorate General for Security and Safety’s (DG SAFE) mission is to ensure the safety of people and property within the European Parliament, in all three workplaces, including fire, panic and first aid prevention. It shall endeavour to minimise the existing level of security risk in order to provide a safe and serene working environment for the services of the Institution and its Members while allowing the European Parliament to maintain the openness and transparency that characterise it.

In close cooperation with DG SAFE hierarchy and other relevant actors, the Strategy and Innovation Unit contributes to generate and produce internal communication strategies on security and safety, develop innovative ways to improve security awareness inside the Parliament, and increase the quality and the level of digitalisation of security services in the Parliament.

 

Your tasks

The trainee assigned to the team will perform a range of activities* to support the unit, from secretarial work, administrative management, graphics, web design, writing and editing of texts to the creation of specific awareness campaigns.

Activities:

  • Support for administrative tasks, data entry, monitoring and reporting of ongoing actions;
  • Organisation of and participation in meetings, producing and generating creative content, and taking minutes;
  • Proofreading and revision of texts and documents;
  • Processing and follow-up of communication projects;
  • Intranet site support - web design, production, graphics and content management;
  • Support for creation: design, implementation and deployment of communication campaigns in various forms;
  • Drafting messages and communications to European Parliament staff;
  • Drafting our monthly internal newsletter “The Safe Times” that provides an overview of what’s going on in DG SAFE, including special events, activities organised by our networks and main news from the European Parliament;
  • Organisation and management of events of all kinds;
  • Participation in the organisation of security exercises or other events related to security awareness.

 

You are

The Strategy and Innovation Unit is looking for a motivated trainee interested in communication, security, safety, parliamentary life, European law, European issues and international relations, having:

  • A university degree in journalism or communication; alternative fields may be considered if an affinity for these subjects can be proven;
  • An excellent command of both written and spoken English and/or French. Knowledge of a third European Union official language would be considered an asset;
  • The ability to work as a team, independently and under pressure;
  • Good writing skills and knowledge of the ADOBE Creative Cloud would be considered an advantage.
