Who we are

The Directorate-General for Security and Safety’s (DG SAFE) mission is to ensure the safety of people and property within the European Parliament, in all three workplaces, including fire, panic and first aid prevention. It shall endeavor to minimize the existing level of security risk in order to provide a safe and serene working environment for the services of the Institution and its Members while allowing the European Parliament to maintain the openness and transparency that characterise it.

We are a dynamic and cross-functional unit within DG SAFE who serves the whole European Parliament. We always look for the best solution in all circumstances and we aim at continuously improving our response capacity and capability.

Our vision: to meet security and safety requests and requirements 24 hours a day, provide remote monitoring of Parliament’s buildings and technical facilities.

Our mission: to provide a dispatching service 24/7, follow up and provide feedback on all matters relating to general security and fire safety.

The Emergency and Control Room Unit is offering a challenging traineeship for someone with advanced and proven IT skills to work in a small, highly motivated team dealing with the configuration, implementation and integration of new technologies in the security operations centre in Brussels.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop and enhance personal and professional skills, and contribute to an innovative project in a supportive and skills-oriented 'back-office' in a dynamic and inclusive environment, constituted by a young and qualified team of experts.

 

Your tasks

An internship in the Organisational Sector of the Emergency and Control Room Unit consists in:

  • Assisting in the further development of ongoing projects particularly with regard to writing Java script and Python;
  • Assisting in the systematic process of identifying, isolating, and resolving errors, bugs, or unexpected behaviour in software, hardware, or system configurations;
  • Assisting in the development and design of users interfaces;
  • Assisting in bench-testing of IT solutions in a lab environment.

 

You are

Ideally, we are looking for someone with a foundational knowledge in IT, particularly someone familiar with programming languages in order to complement the existing skillset of the team.

This unique and interesting traineeship requires someone with focus attention to detail and quality control.

Skills required for this training are:

  • The ability to work in Java script and Python, debugging would be a plus;
  • The ability to articulate technical concepts clearly;
  • The ability to remain focused with attention to detail and quality control;
  • Communicating effectively with non-technical audiences;
  • Possessing strong communication skills, both verbal and written in either English and/or French;
  • Having excellent team working spirit and a sense of initiative.
