Who we are

The Directorate-General for Finance, hereinafter DG FINS, is responsible for Parliament’s budgetary and financial management. Based in both Luxembourg and Brussels, it draws up Parliament's budget, keeps Parliament’s accounts and prepares its financial statements, manages Members' allowances and entitlements, and finances Parliament’s political groups, as well as political parties and foundations at European level. DG FINS consists of three Directorates, 17 Units and the Central Secretariat. The Accounting and Treasury Unit covers two services: the Treasury Service and the Accounting Service. We are looking for a trainee to join our seven colleagues in the Accounting Service, based in Luxembourg.

 

Your tasks

We are looking for a motivated trainee to assist the imprest and VAT teams of the Accounting Service. The tasks include:

  • Support to the VAT team in preparing the VAT reimbursement requests to Member States authorities. Contribution to the update of any VAT related documentation (manual and other supporting documents);
  • Support to the imprest accounts team in verifying the cash journals and the supporting documents provided by the imprest administrators;
  • Checking of the legal and financial viability of visitors’ head of groups using the "Legal entities / Financial identification form" and creation of Business Partners in the EP’s financial management system;
  • Detailed and comprehensive answers to all the questions raised both orally and in writing, relating to the application of the Financial Regulation (imprest accounts, VAT reimbursement and legal entities);
  • Drafting and preparation of reports and statistics.

 

You are

You should:

  • Be an open-minded team player with good organisational skills, flexibility and ability to work with deadlines;
  • Have accounting / financial knowledge and be familiar with working with figures and have a flair for details;
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel) and capable of working with a computerised accounting/financial system;
  • Have good communication skills and language proficiency in English or French.
