Who we are

The Directorate-General for Finance, hereinafter DG FINS, is responsible for Parliament’s budgetary and financial management. Based in both Luxembourg and Brussels, it draws up Parliament's budget, keeps Parliament’s accounts and prepares its financial statements, manages Members' allowances and entitlements, and finances Parliament’s political groups, as well as political parties and foundations at European level. DG FINS consists of three Directorates, 17 Units and the Central Secretariat. DG FINS plays a key and varied role in Parliament’s administration and is a trusted interlocutor for Members and political authorities. Joining DG FINS as a trainee will certainly boost your career. Within the Directorate for Budget and Financial Services in DG FINS, the Budget Unit is responsible for:

  • preparing the annual estimates of appropriations (year N-2);
  • following the budgetary procedure leading to the adoption of the annual budget (year N-1);
  • managing its execution (year N) via transfers within the budget during the current budgetary year;
  • coordinating the subsequent “discharge” procedure (years N+1 and N+2) which closes the budgetary cycle of each annual budget. 

It also checks the financial statements (accompanying the expenditure forecasts) and prepares the annual financial reporting. The Budget Unit acts as a contact point internally and with external stakeholders, notably the European Commission (DG BUDG) and the European Court of Auditors. The team is made up of ten people, including its Head of Unit and it is based in Luxembourg (9 persons) and Brussels (1 person). 

 

Your tasks

You will be entrusted with multiple tasks and provide assistance with:

  • The monitoring, analysis and reporting related to Parliament's real estate portfolio;
  • The review and updating of the DG FINS internal knowledge database;
  • The intranet’s optimisation;
  • The digital (online) archive management;
  • Other administrative tasks linked to the 2025 budget procedures. 

You will also be involved in the preparation of official reports, as well as carry out controls on consolidated data tables and documents through various sources of information. 

 

You are

  • You feel at ease with figures and MS Office suite, including Word and particularly Excel;
  • You have web content management abilities, as well as writing/editing skills with web technology;
  • You are comfortable with professional online communications;
  • You have very good linguistic and communication skills in both English and French;
  • You have a sense of initiative and good analytical skills;
  • You are capable of working both independently and as part of the team;
  • You are interested in knowing how the European Parliament finances its broad range of activities and how the budget helps to improve activities and projects for the profit of the EU citizen.
