The European Parliament stands for European democracy. We help connect it to people. 

This entails providing complete and impartial information to citizens and media about the European Parliament, and assisting Members in their communication activities. The Directorate-General for Communication (DG COMM) strives to reach and engage the right audience with the right message at the right time and in doing so, deliver world-class communication. We are committed communication professionals coming from various professional and academic backgrounds.

Visiting the European Parliament in Strasbourg enables citizens to build a direct relationship with the European institutions and examine Europe from a European perspective. Europa Experiences are bringing the visitor experience to citizens around Europe. The visiting facilities in Strasbourg are aimed at many audiences, including families, young people and the educational sector. Different activities, such as the permanent exhibitions and role-play games, cater to various interests, whether academic or curious. The European Parliament offers a unique visitor experience. In total, the visitor facilities serve over 320,000 visits a year.

The Visitors and Citizens Liaison Unit - Strasbourg serves as a contact point for citizens and visitors at the seat of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. It liaises with local and regional authorities, international organisations based in Strasbourg and the diplomatic corps. Our Strasbourg Social Media channels help to promote all our divers actions and open up a digital way to engage with citizens from the border region and all over Europe.  During your traineeship, you will be able to discover different projects and facets of the European Parliament’s external communication work.

 

Your tasks

  • Support social media content creators in day-to-day tasks, such as: research, drafting social media content, and coordinating creative production and campaigns;
  • Monitor social media accounts; support online community management on all our platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) in several languages (FR, EN, DE);
  • Contribute to the development of our social media strategy and editorial planning;
  • Help maintain an active online presence by engaging with our followers and other key stakeholder;
  • Analyse online communication, seek ways to engage the audience and to reach out to new audiences;
  • Participate in the organization of other European and cross-border events, as well as youth events;
  • Occasionally assist with visits and exhibitions for citizens in several languages.

 

You are

  • An excellent communicator both orally and in writing, with great attention for detail;
  • Experienced or strongly interested in social media management (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) as well as content creation and community management; 
  • A team player who enjoys working as part of a dynamic unit;
  • Creative, curious and enjoy developing new ways of communicating;
  • Interested in European affairs, cultural and youth events;
  • Flexible and enjoy working on a variety of subjects;
  • Ideally, fluent in French and German, as well as in English;
  • Video editing and graphic design skills appreciated;
  • Knowledge of communications within European institutions/politics and experience with paid social media are considered an asset.
