Who we are

The Directorate General for Internal Policies of the Union (DG IPOL) is responsible for organising the work of Parliament's committees dealing with internal policies and for assisting Members in the exercise of the legislative, budgetary and oversight powers conferred upon the European Parliament.

Key services

  • Ensure the smooth running of the legislative and non-legislative activities of parliamentary committees in the field of internal policies, primarily by providing support to the secretariat of 19 committees, including two subcommittees;
  • Help committees and Members exercise their role throughout the legislative cycle: from agenda-setting and pre-legislative consultations to adopting new or amending legislation and scrutinizing its implementation;
  • Ensure coordinated and efficient implementation of the inter institutional agreement on better law-making;
  • Ensure a good coordination of committees’ activities, mainly through the Conference of Committee Chairs;
  • Support the committee members and, in particular, the committee chairs and rapporteurs, in the exercise of their prerogatives;
  • Provide committees, other parliamentary organs and the Parliament's President with specialized advice and expertise through briefings, in-depth analyses and studies on all aspects of internal policies. 

The Informatics (IT) Unit offers technical expertise, training and support for IT equipment and business applications used within DG IPOL. 

 

Your tasks

 

As a trainee, you will have the opportunity to work daily with the team, but also to initiate a project to simplify, improve and automate some activities of the IT unit of our users, depending on your fields of interest and expertise.

Daily activities

  • Installing, troubleshooting and performing, remotely or in person: repairs to office systems, software, hardware or peripheral equipment following design or installation specifications;
  • Offering initial and ongoing training on equipment and software, providing guidance and other support activities and problem-solving mechanisms (help desk activities, automated information systems and frequently asked questions);
  • Carrying out any tasks associated with the unit's work (reports, notes, statistics, etc.). 

 

You are

  • Flexible and proactive;
  • Willing to interact with a variety of colleagues;
  • Interested in learning how IT serves a large public administration;
  • Capable of communicating in English and / or French;
  • Experiences and educated in IT, preferably with a bachelor’s degree in ICT or ICT-related field.
