Who we are

The Directorate-General for Translation (DG TRAD) provides the European Parliament with translation services for its written or electronic communication in all official languages of the European Union.

Our mission is:

  • To make available in all official and working languages all documents relating to Parliament’s role as co-legislator and one of the two arms of the budgetary authority, in order to ensure the legitimacy and transparency of the legislative and budgetary process of the European Union;
  • To enable the European Parliament to meet its commitment to the policy of multilingualism, designed to ensure the equal treatment of languages and permitting all citizens of the European Union to communicate with the institutions and have access to the documents of those institutions in their own language;
  • To support the Members of the European Parliament and its administration in their multilingual communication with citizens by providing high-quality, modern, multilingual services in text, audio and video and ensuring that content is clear and in all the official languages of the EU;
  • To ensure that all these services are supplied as efficiently and effectively as possible.

As a trainee in the Directorate-General for Translation (DG TRAD), you will be joining the management team of the Directorate for Citizens' Language. The aim of our Directorate is to produce more accessible content using clear language. The directorate has five units (Clear Language and Editing; Audio and Podcast; Speech-to-text; Subtitling and Voice-Over; My House of European History) that you will have the chance to collaborate with depending on our future projects and your interests.

 

Your tasks

Your tasks will include:

  • Researching, drafting and identifying, under supervision, information related to translation, multilingualism and, in particular, clear language and accessibility;  
  • Actively participate in internal projects focused on accessibility and the use of clear language;
  • Preparing content for and managing the directorate's webpage of the Translation Portal;  
  • Helping in tasks related to the business applications used in the Directorate for Citizens’ Language;
  • Assisting with the drafting of minutes or reports;  
  • Participating in the organisation of meetings, seminars and other events;  
  • Various other tasks related to the day-to-day running of the directorate.  

The tasks can be very diverse. You will be able to put your skills to good use in our small and friendly team.
