Who we are

The Directorate-General for Parliamentary Democracy Partnerships (DG PART) is a relatively new Directorate-General created in 2022 with the objective to streamline the promotion and upholding of parliamentary democracy in Europe and beyond, by fostering cooperation with national parliaments and coordinating efforts made by the Parliament liaison offices and representations outside the European Union.

The Directorate for External Liaison Offices brings together the representation functions in third countries and internal organisations, as well the European Union’s Visitors’ Programme (EUVP). The Directorate includes the UK liaison office in London, the Congressional Liaison Office in Washington DC, as well as Parliament staff representations at the United Nations in New York, at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Jakarta, and at the African Union’s secretariat in Addis Ababa. The ultimate mission of the Directorate for External Liaison Offices is to serve as a diplomatic vehicle to consolidate the European Parliament’s role for parliamentary diplomacy worldwide.

  • Organising activities and events in general and managing when necessary the calendar of the Director;
  • Coordinating and cooperating with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Providing written contributions to, e.g. speeches, presentations, briefings, letters and notes;
  • Providing operational support as necessary.

Horizontal tasks involving work with other entities in the Directorate-General can be expected. The trainee should rapidly acquire a good knowledge of Parliament's structure and functioning, in order to contribute to tasks linked to partnership development, in interaction with other Units in DG PART and other Directorates-General. Some tasks of a practical and administrative nature can be expected, especially in view of the fact that the Directorate and the Directorate-General are entirely new structures.
